Hi All:
I have setup Merge Replication (Push) & we are using SQL2000 sp3.
After testing a few things, I disabled the Publication. This did not remove
Subscription on the other Server.
I have a task stuck in Subcriptions, under Replication on SQL.
It Shows the Task as 'Running' Status and Last Action as 'Syncronization in
Progress'
Now I am not able to delete the table in the subscriber also, as it says
'This table has been setup from Replication'
Please suggest.

You can use sp_removedbreplication 'dbname' on publisher and subscriber to
remove the system tables associated with replication.
If needed, there is a stored procedure to remove the replication setting on
a table called sp_MSunmarkreplinfo which takes a tablename as a parameter.
Alternatively, setting replinfo to 0 in sysobjects for the particular table
should do it.

I did try this procedure & was able to remove the system tables, including
the Job I mentioned. But it was still not letting us alter the structure or
drop the tables on which Replication was setup.
Please let me know what am I doing wrong.

|||I would be interested in hearing from the community if anyone is having the
same type of problems on SQL 2005. We added a force option to sp_removed
which more aggressively drops replication objects. Additionally, we now drop
any rowguid columns that were added in merge.

How to reduce size of sql.log file
Hi,
I am running database on SQL2000 server and sql.log file
that is associated with the database keeps on growing. I
would like to reduce its size but don't know how. I would
appreciate if someone could tell me what is the way to
reduce the sql.log file size.

I did try to backup database, backup log file and shrink
both database and log file, but these actions did not
reduce size of sql.log file.
My database file is:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL

How to reclaim DB space?
I have a sql2000 database at almost 25gigs. When i checked the
properties, it says 87% is unused space. When i went into the shrink
menu, database file looks reasonable(around 2gigs), but log file is
17gigs with 2gigs used. So, almost 15gigs free space. How do i reclaim
that space and return it to the NT file system? I also did a backup of
full database and also re-backup the log files. Also tried all kinds
of shrinking switches like truncating, rearranging etc...shrink to
3gigs...it comes back with successful but size remains around 17gigs.
what gives?

Change the recovery model to simple (found by right
clicking on the database, then going to the options tab).
Then run the following:
backup log <database_name> with truncate_only
go
dbcc shrinkfile (<logical_log_file>, 100)
Note: to get the <ligical_log_file>, run sp_helpfile.
important: This will not cause you to lose any data, BUT
you will not be able to restore using your tx-log backups
anymore (because you just truncated it!). So, make sure
you do a full SQL backup on this database before giving my
script a go.
You can then change the recovery model back to bulk-logged
or Full if you so require.

backup log <database_name> with truncate_only
go
dbcc shrinkfile (<logical_log_file>, 100)
Note: to get the <ligical_log_file>, run sp_helpfile.
important: This will not cause you to lose any data, BUT
you will not be able to restore using your tx-log backups
anymore (because you just truncated it!). So, make sure
you do a full SQL backup on this database before giving my
script a go.
You can then change the recovery model back to bulk-logged
or Full if you so require.

How to read parent Package in Script Task
Hi,
In SQL2000 DTS, I set a variable to DTSGlobalVariables.Parent. Then I can manipulate the package.
What is the equivalent way in SQL 2005 SSIS?
